Re: Digital Transformation
...before I go "dark" for the w-end, I wanted to report on this...this is "AI" that continues to evolve:
*************************************************************

Guests welcome in-room digital concierge
Hotels are testing Amazon's Echo digital personal assistant device in rooms as an automated way to provide information that was once provided by staff, such as dining recommendations. "We have tested Amazon Alexa in-room at the W Austin, and the consumer feedback was overwhelmingly positive," according to Marriott.

Re: Digital Transformation
Let's not lose all hope as this Fortune Note noted:
**************************************************

Artificial intelligence is so hot it's on the verge of becoming a cliché. Yet the topic has so thoroughly permeated the strategic landscape that every CEO needs an AI plan, much as every leader needs to understand digital disruption, regulation, and cybersecurity.

I recently interviewed Walt Bettinger, CEO of financial-services goliath Charles Schwab, and over the course of discussing interest rates, asset allocation, and cash management, I asked him, almost in an obligatory manner, what Schwab was doing with AI.

His answer surprised me. The one-time discount brokerage had no interest in using AI to beat the market, knowing first that algorithms already were quite good at designing asset-allocation strategies and second that a computer couldn't consistently beat the market. Instead, Schwab was using home-built AI to "listen" to customer-service conversations and offer help to human representatives in real time. A client might have too large a position in one stock, for instance, and an AI could pick this up and alert the rep to alert the client. Only a computer, said Bettinger, could monitor tens of thousands of calls that way and offer constructive suggestions in real time.

The key to this example is that Schwab understands the limitations of AI and also the role humans play in making it work. Read my whole interview with Bettinger, in the current issue of Fortunehere.

Re: Digital Transformation
A friend of mine who is legitimately terrified of AI told me last night that they are starting to build AI to play other AI in chess because humans aren't cutting it anymore. I am so on the fence with if AI is good or bad for humanity, but hanging out with her always makes me think that Skynet is right around the corner.

We're already there--as I underscored this in this Grid I released to my personal Twitter Feed I created based on excerpts of an Article I read in Mother Jones:

Re: Digital Transformation
@mpouraryan  The this Google AI, AlphaZero, could master all of history's chess knowlege in four hours is somewhat scary. OK, so maybe it's just a matter of a chess game, but where is this leading? AI that becomes surgeons, teachers, etc ... This is just the beginning. And it's moving quickly!

Re: Digital Transformation
@Bayte:  Thank you for your thoughts--without getting into the politics of it, the views you've underlined is based on representations that is not true--because, for instance, iran has a very vibrant tech scene that has seen a number of very cool homegrown techs (some as good or even better than for instance Instagram).   When we strive for Digital Transformation (as is the essentail message here), part of it is harnessing the entire global spectre of capabilities to avoid the very things you've underscored in your comments.   Maybe 2018 will be that year--I remain optimistic.
