I agree! It’ll definitely be interesting to see what takes place in our government. Hopefully technology can continue to move in a fast pace, positive direction.

@batye, brilliant! I think game theory is very relevant. It represents the moving pieces and the unknowns with new access to information and new decisions by users.

@freehe, great points! Absolutely! The judgment aspect needs to remain the domain of human intelligence. The predictability of variables in the application and the response must be of value to the specific situation, which cannot be predicticted (ie think "game theory").

AI and machine learning have pros and cons. There are risks such as security risks, lack of security standards and underground criminals that can use AI to commit crimes.

@DHagar, Good points. Technology can replace repetitive tasks. However, robotics and AI are not faulty proof and errors will occur. In addition, robotics and AI cannot replace human customer service. Robots and AI cannot deescalate a situation when a customer is upset and complaining about a problem. In addition, not all situations can be coded because sometimes human also think-out-of-the-box which cannot be coded or at least not yet.

2018 will be an exciting year. Hopefully more startups will move into these areas mentioned in the article - SD-WAN, cloud, 5G and machine learning. 2018 may be the indicator for future inventions and technology.

I would say Cloud services, 5G and SD-WAN willl be popular in 2018. Due to the new tax changes major companies will have some funds available for R&D which will allow for more trials/pilots and more resources to expand services.
