@vnewman I agree. It could be nothing more than an empty promise on Sprint's part, something to boost its image possibly.

Sprint, as far as I know, hasn’t even conducted any 5G trials in either homes or businesses. Both ATT and Verizon have already been there and done that. It sounds like smoke and mirrors with a side helping of wishful thinking.

@mhhf1ve - I completely agree. Sprint is really not a leading network in the US, and that is largely because of their lackluster coverage. Being the "1st" in the 5G race won't really do anything to change the reputaiton they've built with consumers. I certainly wouldn't consider switching to sprint for that reason alone. A big reason why getting 5G first likely won't change anything is because realistically, people don't know what they're missing, or what to expect. I currently have Verizon and it works just fine. I have no complaints, and I woudn't even consider switching to Sprint.
First is overrated in 5G
Even if they're right and they are first, first isn't necessarily (1) best -- or, for that matter, (2) first for long. See, e.g., my Telco Transformation Q&A with Wells Fargo managing director Jennifer Fritzsche -- specifically, her comments on T-Mobile potentially being first to market with 5G but still losing the "5G race" ultimately.

@clrmoney yes on the long run it will be a great technology... but for now it a big step to get it there...

I wonder how the coverage will spread...
Sprint isn't exactly known for having the best coverage, so I wonder how Sprint will spread its 5G -- and I really wonder if Google's Fi MVNO will be able to take advantage of it by combining this 5G network with the coverage of T-mobile's 4G LTE network...

I know that Sprint is somewhat popular with it comes to their phones and services but it will be interested if they have 5G added to their company so see what it will do for them and be a value in the long run.
