Re: Network Industry
@srufolo1 - That is exactly how she has been treated, and for about 20 years now. Most things tend to go wrong right around when grades need to be submitted. And suddenly she has to teach the teach who refused to enter their grades into the system all semester long, how to enter a semesters worth of grades in one night. It is more than time for her to move on.

Re: Network Industry
@elizabethv Your friend probably acted as the school's IT person, and IT people are constantly called on because, of course, everything breaks all the time, or doesn't work. I can never imagine being responsible for an entire school network! The job's shelf life has expired for her. Good for her for moving on!

Re: Network Industry
I think a lot of people in general change jobs far more than they ever have. It is starting to become the norm more than the exception. Even my friend, whose job is in tech, as the Network Administrator of the High School she teaches at, is currently going to school to get into Medical Billing and Coding. She is tired of being fully responsible for the schools entire network. Of being the one that gets called whenever there is even the slightest of tech problems. I would think, at one point in her life, the job was what she really wanted. But now she's just over being so responsible for something that isn't holding her interest like it used to.

Re: Network Industry
@mpouraryan - I completely agree. We need to maintain a sense of humanity if we expect to keep our society out of a feudalistic nightmare. I've stated before in Japan they don't believe in allowing technology to replace the job of a person, even if that means someone saves money somewhere. But their culture is completely different. There is a general desire to cherish others and their value and role in society.

Re: Network Industry
@elizabethv  I agree somewhat. First, I do feel that some people in tech will be replaced, however others can be trained to do other jobs. We need more training in the industry, and people in tech need to think in advance before it's too late. Training is key.

Google's New Assistant
There go some of the jobs that humans were doing, I guess. But in the quest for efficiency, the "Google Assistant for Networking" tool that relies on intent-based networking technologies is something that Google needs to do.

As I read this, my first reaction was :  really--Yes they're innovative but wouldn't one think that they'd come up with something more than just--AUTOMATION?

As all know here throughout TT, I have had my reservations and the need to maintain the sense of humanity has been at the heart of my deliberation.   I hope you're right for the sake of the future--as there is massive displacement no matter what study one looks at and there lies the challenge.

Re: Network Industry
@freehe - I don't really believe that anyone in tech will ever be truly replaced. They just may have to change their job skills to adapt to an ever changing market. If they aren't needed to check for bugs in a program, they may be needed to oversee security or write new programs. It's a job that will always need people, no matter how automated it gets. In my opinion, anyway.
