OPEN-O: Orchestrating SDN & NFV

Hui Deng, Principal Staff, leading SDN/NFV technical strategy, China Mobile Research Institute Marc Cohn, Vice President Network Strategy, The Linux Foundation Christopher Donley, Sr Director, Telco Open Source Ecosystems, Huawei Technologies In March, the Linux Foundation announced its OPEN Orchestrator Project (OPEN-O), which intended to develop an open source, unified orchestration platform for end-to-end service orchestration across both NFV and SDN network domains, as well as legacy networks. The OPEN-O vision enables orchestration of any service over any network by using modular approach that integrates with multiple VNF managers, SDN controllers and VIMs. OPEN-O also allows service providers to manage legacy network infrastructures and interwork with legacy OSS and BSS systems. We invite technologists and business leaders to the first webinar on OPEN-O, which addresses the target use cases that influenced the OPEN-O functional architecture, software baseline, and a project update. We also intend to address how OPEN-O is forging a new model for open source that is tailored to major telecommunications and cable operators.

Mike Robuck is the Editor of Telco Transformation. He has a long history of reporting on the telecom and cable sectors on topics such as SDN, NFV, cloud, wireless and OTT, for publications such as CED Magazine, Communications Technology and Boardwatch. He also reported on high school sports for The Rocky Mountain News, a sure sign that he is destined for some sort of Nobel prize. Mike is based in Montrose, Colorado.
Hui Deng joined China Mobile in 2007 and is working on the evolution of the operator’s architecture during the mobile Internet era. Among many other positions, he was organizing committee co-chair of 2005/2006/2007 CNGI-ETF Forum, 3GPP-IETF IPv6 migration joint workshop in 2010, and Mobile Internet Architecture (Miracle) Conference 2010/2011/2012.
Marc Cohn has a proven track record in leading networking and telecommunications software, systems, and services businesses. He has held senior strategy, marketing, product management, and strategic alliances leadership roles, and has been effective in startups, mid-size, and multinational corporations. He is also highly influential in the SDN and NFV communities, holding leadership roles in SDN/NFV industry groups, standards organizations, and open source projects.
Christopher Donley is a visionary network technology leader with a passion for innovation. He combines business acumen and technical savvy to lead technical organizations, identify opportunities for change, build high-performance teams, and accomplish breakthrough objectives. Possesses broad, deep knowledge of networking, security, telecommunications and operating systems including UNIX, Linux, MacOS, and Windows.
