Re: Fiber in his plans
Amazing how the undeveloped countries continue to make progress by leaps and bounds!

@DHagar:

Indeed ! Very impressive progress. We had witnessed similar progress in areas of Cloud from other countries. That is really good indication to the global world.

Re: Geography?
@mhhf1ve:

Completely in agreement with you. You brought up a very good point about geography. I would like to explore more on that to learn more. But fiber is definitely greater fit and i am sure that they have it on their roadmap.

Re: Sir Lanka Fiber
@freehe:

Very well stated points about how fiber plays a role in enhancing any country.

Revenue increase is an additional key factor for the country to pursue the initiative. Cost reduction and hence the revenue growth also should help the country think about investing further into other area like infrastructure, cloud etc.

Re: Fiber in his plans
@ms.akkineni, very impressive.  That goes to show that the developed countries do not have a lock on being the leaders.  That's a good thing - lots of opportunity for development in these new areas.  That's the way it should be!

Re: Geography?
I suppose, as noted elsewhere on this site, that fiber is a pre-requisite for broadband wireless -- because without the fiber backhaul the wireless traffic hits bottlenecks and can't reach its full potential. So I expect to see a follow-up investment in wireless tech after the groundwork is laid.

Re: Geography?
@mhhf1ve, I am wondering as well if there will be further development in the use of satellites and other connectivity that will either augment and/or provide an alternative to broadband wireless?

The initiatives by Google & Facebook are in this vain--Here is the Project Loon site by Google that was quite enlightening to get caught up on:
