@JB:

As always,appreciate detailed analysis.

Completely inline with your thoughts shared about how tech deployment and evolution are two different things.

Re: Googling around for stories about what cities are actually doing ....
Joe,

Well, that's a place where tech deployment is different from evolution; engineers can solve the half-a-wing problem without having to figure out a way to market a tenth of a wing, then an eighth, then a quarter, then half, then seven-eighths, all the time adapting things for purposes other than the original, the way evolution is forced to proceed. Engineers can say "we've got measurements on lift to drag ratio for wings and on power output to weight ratio for engines and on propeller efficiency, and we can already see that there needs to be something to keep it from flipping over, and something else to allow it to steer ... " and get to an airplane from that. But Smart Cities seems like such a big, messy, poorly specified problem that I think we'll probably fall back on market evolution to get there, if indeed we ever do.

That appears to be the reality. This makes me think there is still a long way to go..

Ms Akkineni, I think it just indicates how early in the day it really is. All cities are pretty similar because they are all at the same point in the cycle: getting ready to start.

@Michelle:

That is true. A mix is very much possible.

We will have to wait and see.

@JB:

That is interesting and i would say rather disappointing to see same results for all cities.

Not sure, have heard so many good things about Boston being front runner in smart cities initiative.

But will definitely try to look it up.

I think we'll see a mix of #3 and #4. Implementation will be messy in some places, but others will experience at least some improvement over older methods. We shall see...

Re: Poll: The Fate of Smart Cities
I would say #3 would be my option.

And the thought behind is - ability to analyze traffic patterns and manage / control adequately would surely yield value into the smart model.

@Carl:

Given that "All of the above" is not an option, I guess I'm gonna go with 2, then 4, then 3, then maybe 1.
