Continuing decline of concentration?
I'm wondering if the understory of all this might be that attention spans continue to get shorter, particularly in young males, and therefore anything that takes undivided attention over a period of time to appreciate is going to be less and less valued. Seems to me that most of what payTV structures offer is geared to longer blocks of time with an expectation of fewer distractions; streaming on a connected device means that pretty much everything is either WOW-SQUIRREL! or mental muzak.

afwriter - That is certainly true. Netflix' production budget is scary. If they can't keep subscriber growth steaming away, they're going to struggle.

@Adi, that is if they can sustain that amount of production. There is also the fact that, while Netflix is leading in original content, they are not the only ones that traditional movie studios and TV channels are battling against.

@Adi Thank you. Judging by the glacial pace at which it is moving, I predict newspapers and magazines will be around for a while. This non-Millennial female, for one, is considering getting the weekend subscription to The New York Times. Yes, some people still like the smell and feel of newspapers on a Sunday morning. Nothing, in my opinion, could replace the comfort of that.

And with Netflix spending $6 billion a year on original content, there's going to be plenty more. Netflix is putting most movie studios and TV channels in the shade.

srufolo1 - You make a great point -- people are still watching TV, even millennial males. And for that matter, reading newspapers. But the landscape is definitely changing - cord-cutting, getting news from online sources, all of that is rampant as well. The tricky bit is figuring out how fast this is moving, and trying to get ahead of it.

It seems like there's also enough content across multiple networks that can we watched streaming/online that subscribing just for the sake of one channel.

Interesting survey because it's based on gender. Although the Millennial males say they are cutting the cord, still 33 percent will be paying for cable this year, and 27 percent still watch TV for aired programs. Also, by the looks of it, newspapers are in big trouble as only 5 percent are relying on print news. But people have been saying this about print news since the '80s.

I guess that is true that most millenial males watch content more. I guess because they have more time to do things or they work online or something. But I would cut the cord also if they is an easier way to save me some money.
