Re: Apple Music and HBO Europe
@batye I kno wwhat you mean. For all the visions of a future with technology, I'd guess that Ray Bradbury's in Fahrenheit 451 comes closest. In some ways our present reality is worse because we are not only lulled into an alternate reality by the screens in our homes by the ones we carry with us everywhere.

batye - Yes, of course, internal politics are another issue. Cultures don't fit, management styles are different...that's certainly an issue. You have to look not only at the technical and business drivers, but also at corporate culture, when coupling companies. Otherwise you can end up, like you said, with one side trying to sabotage the other.

Re: Apple Music and HBO Europe
mhhf1ve - It's a tough one. You only have to look at what's happening with Time Warner -- used to include a cable operator, spun it off, now might get acquired by a telecom and satellite TV distribution company...so should content and distribution be coupled, or not?
To me, if content distribution is the core of your business, it's probably worth looking at adding content; and similarly if content is the core of your business, then adding distribution probably makes sense. But obviously it gets down to the specifics then -- whether the numbers really make sense and the synergies are present.
Comcast has certianly delivered on its acquisition of NBCU. Brian Roberts is practically going around saying "Cord-cutting? What cord-cutting?"

Re: Apple Music and HBO Europe
Apple is just testing the waters and making sure it can become its own Disney. I always wondered if Steve Jobs ever regretted selling Pixar to Disney instead of trying to merge it into Apple.... Seems like Pixar might have been a better fit for Apple, but maybe not?
