Re: Another approach
Actually, there is a last mile solution for the enterprise. They simply interconnect connect their datacenters by buying fiber optic transportation layer from wholesalers. Or the service providers extend the service to them. Obviously, this does not work for small or probably even medium-scale companies not to mention retail customers. I suspect someone is going to find a way to aggregate the local traffic my some kind of multi-tenant data center and bypass the traditional service providers.

Re: NFV Global to Local
@dcawrey yes, as you never know as no one have crystal ball to see the future... but you could pre-calculcated it and use calculcation to take risk... the way I see...

Another approach
Is the last mile really just a tech relic, from the days when you had to build out to a cable, phone, or fiber connection? Obvioiusly it is technically possible to do the direct-to-virtual-network at the building, maybe even floor or server, level, and simply reduce the last mile to the last 100 meters, or 10 meters, or millimeter. But is there a way for some entrepreneur to move into that niche?
If so, I'd definitely buy that stock.

Ham Sandwich, hold the ham?
The headline and the early part of the article suggested that Orange was actually about to wade into that last mile with NFV, something that probably will need to happen eventually. But it turns out that's still to come; a better, more flexible interface to the last mile is a good thing, but as long as there's a last mile -- and it's being provided by smaller, local, less technically forward companies -- there's going to be a last mile problem.

@dcawrey True, if you're going to remain agile, you need to have the option to make changes to achieve greater efficiency.

API flexibility is important. The future is always uncertain, and locking oneself into a API is not something developers want to do in the cloud-based world we now live in.

NFV Global to Local
I thought that NFV/ Network function Virtualization was already local but I think it is a great idea to reach new areas. the API architechture is something interesting as like meta data etc.
