Plus some of those same companies announced lay-offs recently.

Especially since the new tax laws haven’t even taken effect yet. It’s not like they’ve already benefitted from the new bill and are using the associated profits for these bonuses.

Re: Comcast & AT&T Bonuses etc.
On this first day of 2018, one thing we have to think about is the "Sugar High" that this tax bill is going to bring--AND what then?   There is also one more factor that all have to consider that would stiffle Transformation:   Trade Wars--China and Europe have been quite explicit in statements and as I was working away on commitment at the start up I work for, The Daily Outsider, this was quite striking.    Althought the $ 1000 bonus is nice--what then after that?  What about the long term?

THanks for sharing your thoughts--In a trade war, no one wins and opportunites to truly be transformational will continue to be stiffled which concern all the "fearful Five"--I wonder, in fact, whether they understand that.    The bigger question is whether the US Government understands it--right now, they do not as the debate over Net Neutrality clearly illustrated.

HAhahhahaa.. Uh. there are companies that still offer pensions?!

Maybe government jobs.. and some very old school companies still do.. but I have never even seen such an offer on any job description.

I'm not saying $1K is anything to sneeze at.. but... in the grand scheme of things.. what is the impact on the economy? Even if everyone decided to spend it all in one go?

> "My daughter who has a part-time job says she was thrilled at getting a holiday bonus in the form of cash. She hadn't expected anything really, and so this was a surprising delight.."

Many years ago, I worked at a company that handed out a year end bonus.. But it was so clumsily done that people immediately opened their envelopes (not expecting a bonus), and then immediately started comparing their bonuses (which were not equal). That was an interesting study of psychology that day.. Some people were happy. Others sad because even though they didn't expect anything, they got less than they felt they deserved.

@mhhf1ve or just less than their coworker whom they don't consider any more productive got. My daughter didn't compare amounts, and I don't know if anyone else did. She actually thought that they were giving everyone the same amount because she would have not assumed she would get that much as a part-time employee.
