Re: Facebook open source project for 5G networking??
Thanks @batye for your thoughts--I always somehow thought that the major players in Canadian Telco (Rogers et. al) have been at the forefront. It is also frankly surprising that you noted that Canada has to play catch up.

Re: Facebook open source project for 5G networking??
It is up to those of us who embrace this to make it simple--we should also be able to welcome any initiative to disrupt cell networks--right? There are some who have tried in their own way--such as FreedomPop.

Re: Facebook open source project for 5G networking??
Facebook releasing open source hardware for wireless 5G networking *should* benefit the telcos by lowering the operating costs. Not so sure that the hardware suppliers are going to be so happy, but the telcos are also going to get some competition if FB puts some autonomous internet drones in the sky soon, too.
This is all part of the Telco Transformation -- where companies like FB and Google are pushing telcos to compete and do more than they've done in the past. The telco industry is going to see some incredible innovation in the next few years.

Re: Facebook open source project for 5G networking??
@mhhf1ve I saw that mentioned. Facebook is now trying to take over in another way. You'd think the heads of these companies would be content with their billions and leave other areas for other companies to work on.

Facebook open source project for 5G networking??
What happens when Facebook releases an open source project to disrupt the cell network ecosystem?

Is this yet another standard to compete with and confuse customers with?
