Re: Transformation for 2017
@srufolo1:

I am sure you wouldn't be disappointed with Netflix. I have a very good history with Netflix usage.

VR for Empathy
I saw this article and I just had to share:

Virtual Reality is being used to help people actually see what life is like in 3rd world countries, and countries that are experiencing turmoil and war. There is already a VR experience to allow people to see what is actually going on in Syria right now. This is an aspect of VR I never would have thought of but I truly think the opportunity is amazing. It's one thing to see and hear on TV that Iran is being bombed again, and quite another to see in VR just what that looks like and means for the people living there. The potentials are endless where this is concerned, the only possible problem is that given the people most interested in using this technology for this are charities, they may not have the funds to come up with all the technology needed to go that route.

Re: Transformation for 2017
@Ariella I mean that they purchase shows exclusively for Netflix viewing. They lead the way for other providers to do the same (as we've seen with Hulu, Amazon, & even Crackle originals).

Re: Transformation for 2017
@Michelle when you say that Netflix is buying more original series, do you mean that they have an exclusive on them -- like for their own series like "House of Cards." or that they are buying some series that are also available elsewhere.

@Joe You're not missing much. Prime queue listings are still a mess. Playback isn't nearly as smooth as Netflix. Really, no service streams as efficiently as Netflix.

Re: Transformation for 2017
Amazon Prime has its perks but I've found the UX far too confusing and labyrinthine to find/browse certain particularzed video content.  (Of course, it's been a few years since I've looked.)

OTOH, Netflix is raising its prices again.

Maybe it's time to repair some cut cords.  ;)

AT&T + TW
It's funny how pundits have widely different takes on the impact of Trump's election on the proposed AT&T/Time Warner deal.  Some point to Trump's on-the-record antipathy for added regulations as a sign of hope for the megadeal -- completely ignoring what others have pointed to: that Trump has out-and-out said that he would work to block the deal (as well as block -- and possibly even work to undo -- others).

Of course, candidates say a lot of things during their campaigns that never come to fruition.  We shall see.

@dc I wasn't aware of this service -- it must be great for 60 Minutes super fans. 99 cents a month is quite a deal!

Re: Transformation for 2017
Viewing outside the planned network schedule is a bit odd at first, but becomes perferable to commercial filled time slots. Also, Netflix is buying more and more original series. I hear some of these are really good (still no commercials).

Re: Transformation for 2017
@ ms. akkineni  It's not that surprising as I have never had much interest in television. My sister got me a $30 Netflix card so I guess I'll start a trial account.
